Dear families,
Some highlights from this past week was our Math project on angles. Students drew pool tables using a sheet of chart paper and had to make “bank shots” to get five different balls in different pockets. They sharpened their protractor skills to calculate the angles required. Homework We did a lot of math in class this week and the homework over the next two weeks is an English writing task for Valentine’s day. We talked about the commercialization of holidays and how hand-made gifts are always more meaningful. The homework, due Valentine’s Day, is to write a personalized message for each student in the class. To make this easier, students will be creating six templates to use for multiple messages. Students took home the template page and the blank hearts for the writing activity. Here’s a link to the Google Docs for students who were away... Instructions and template: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1U7t53EoXgo0cvAhULtVEJgc1vlU605cDV_KyQnISzc8/edit?usp=sharing Hearts: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SS5VvRXxi0N1o3ba4-n77yRjMJFhd_DZPko3fSzWuUY/edit?usp=sharing We talked as a class about how making the comments as personalized and creative as possible will make them more meaningful to give and to receive. I appreciate your help in making sure each student is putting in the time and effort. (This will be their only homework from me for the next two weeks.) Parent-teacher conferences will be taking place on Thursday evening and Friday morning. This round of conferences is especially for students who need strategies for improving in different areas. Often parents like to wait until they see the report cards before scheduling a conference. That works for us, or you can, sometime this week, submit the form that went home this past week. Bon weekend! M. Quigg
