Dear families,
We had a thoughtful Remembrance day assembly on Friday during which our class recited In Flanders Field in French and sang a bilingual version of Blowing in the Wind. They carried themselves with grace and respect for the occasion. Homework: Please Note: All homework needs to be handed in along with the green folders (or a folder of your student’s choosing). I'm sometimes getting loose papers and that means students don't have a folder in which to take home their HW for the next week. I would appreciate a Wednesday evening reminder to your child to make sure this folder is in his or her backpack. Thanks for your help. English writing HW A remembrance day reflection on what war and what peace mean to you. interview a family member or a family friend that has been affected by war either directly or indirectly. Call or Skype them if they are not in town. Math HW Division: Study for the division quiz on Wednesday Grade 4 students need to be able to divide 2 digits by 1, with remainders. Ex. 27 divided by 4 Grade 5 students need to be able to divide 3 digits by 1, with remainders. Ex. 273 divided by 4 Practice website: http://www.math-aids.com/Division/ Students in grade 4 have had a preview of long division, however, they are not expected to use long division on the quiz. Students in grade 5 can use long division or other methods that they may feel more comfortable with. Long division seems like one of those rights of passage in school and students have been doing well with it in class by remembering to follow the steps. Each step is not difficult but remembering when to do each step in order is what students often struggle with. The way we’ve been remembering the steps is with a bit of help from English and the family trick: Dad, mom, sister, Brother, Rover D iviser M ultiplier S oustraire (Subtract) B esser le chiffre (Bring down) R este (Remainder) Here is a video with these steps in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiiuZ8sfw00 Here is comprehensive video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGqBQrUYua4 A message from Mme Gooden Good day Parents and Guardians: You may have noticed that in some weeks there is no French homework. I would like to extend to you that I will from here on request that students finish for homework, work that has not been completed in the classroom. This work will go home at the same time as that of my counterpart, Mr. Quigg, and is due at the same time as that of Mr. Quigg. Secondly, as the cold season fast approaches, we are seeing more and more the need for Kleenex and sanitizers. I would like to take this opportunity to kindly request a donation of a Kleenex box for our students or Disinfectant wipes for our desks. Thanks in advance for your kind consideration. Sincerely, Mme Gooden !!! A reminder about our fantastic school fundraiser !!!
A few reminders: -Progress reports go home on Monday along with parent-teacher interview times. -There is no school on Friday Nov. 17th. -Please make sure homework comes in each Thursday in a folder, thanks. Bon weekend! M. Quigg
