Dear families,
In math we have started our unit on measurement and we began by focusing on time. We will be focusing on elapsed time this coming week here is a helpful video that shows the number- line method that we will be using: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orta5xU6DBo Here is a Google doc link to this week's homework: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XWPTSiukoe53FHQ4nqcW0eVOIY1fh12cwo0yuWfAFVA/edit?usp=sharing A message from Mme Gooden: On behalf of M. Quigg, myself, and the entire class, we would like to sincerely thank Esme's parents for generously donating three soccer balls, including pins, to the class and Sahara's and Faris' parents for their donation of Kleenex boxes. We were all very happy to receive these. One of the requests that was repeated at the recent Parent-Teacher interview was that students receive more French homework. I will do this. I request that parents work within their child's capabilities to accomplish this. Last but certainly not least, The Toronto French Book Fair runs from November 29 to December 2, 2017 at 789 Yonge Street. Here's your chance to get to see editors, authors, and books that you may not otherwise see in Ontario. As always, thanks for your kind cooperation. Sincerely, Mme Gooden 4/5ième et SK FI École Lord Lansdowne Field trip December 12th As a celebration of the students' hard work throughout the fall term, and as a connection to the drama, music and language curriculum, I have booked our class to see Young People Theatre's production of Beauty and the Beast. The class doesn't know this yet and I would appreciate you keeping it hush-hush until I announced it Monday afternoon. I would be grateful if you could send me an email if you are able to help supervise. We will be leaving the school at roughly 11:45 and returning at 3:15. Volunteers also need to pay for a ticket at a cost of $13.20. We will also be going to Young People Theatre's production of Salmon Girl on May 8th. The form will also cover this trip. I’ll be collecting payment for that trip closer to May. I will be sending the forms home on Monday. As of Monday after school, the School Cash Online form for this trip will be set up. Please visit schoolcashonline.com from that time onwards. If finding the funds becomes difficult to pay for a trip or event at any point through your child's time at Lord Lansdowne, please let your child's teacher know because part of the fundraising from our Parent Council is to ensure that all families have access to activities that support learning. Supporting our school’s Syrian refugee family Earlier in the year, Aran and Lara's mom, Noura, gave an update to both grade 4/5 classes about the status of the family of Syrian refugees we have sponsored as a school. Unfortunately, despite being sponsored and having an apartment waiting for them on Major Street, the family remains in a refugee camp in Lebanon. We are making an appeal to PM Trudeau, asking for his help to expedite the resettlement process for the family. During Noura’s visit the students were keen with ideas to help bring the family to Canada. They came up with the idea of sending a video message to Trudeau and they also came up with the words in the message. Noura filmed a short video with her phone and she has edited it into a one minute video message. Please see the release form I will attach to the Week 12 group email. I know it's a quick turnaround but we would be grateful to receive the forms on Monday.
Kind regards, M. Quigg
