Dear families,
We have an action-packed week coming up with a trip to the Lillan H. Smith TPL branch tomorrow (we had to reschedule for this Monday), a trip to OCAD’s Onsite Art Gallery on Thursday afternoon to experience their exhibition of indigenous art, and a live cello experience on Tuesday morning. Onsite Art Gallery Visit on Thursday Information from their website: Raise a flag presents selected works from a national heritage collection representing First Nations, Inuit and Métis art. Housed in Ottawa, managed by Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, the Indigenous Art Collection is one of the most important and comprehensive art collections of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada and beyond. In light of and in tandem with Canada’s 150 commemorations, raise a flag represents alternative discourses and uncovers missing narratives from the framework of a national identity. The works in raise a flag focus on recent acquisitions, obtained from 2000 to 2015, which chronicle recent significant national narratives reflecting upon Canadian heritage, diversity and collective memory. Miriam (Elie’s mom) works for OCAD and will be volunteering on the trip. I know it's very short notice but if there is the possibility of another parent joining us, that would be ideal. We will be leaving the school at 12:40 and walking to the gallery for the tour starting at 1:15 and then returning to the school at roughly 3:00. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are available. I will be sending permission forms home tomorrow and I would be grateful if they could all come back by Wednesday to ensure that all students can participate. Cello experience Talia’s sister is an accomplished cellist and she will be coming into the classroom on Tuesday morning to play cello for the class and answer questions about her journey with music. Thanks, Nadia. Welcome to our class! Winter Concert - Mark your calendars! Our class will be performing in the Winter Concert on the evening of Tuesday December 19th. Please make sure students arrive at the school at 5:45 and meet in our classroom. The concert begins at 6. Ordering prints Thank you to those of you who attended the fundraiser at the Ossington or ordered artwork. It was a big success and we managed to raise over $6,000!! It's one of my favorite events of the year and I'm sorry that I couldn't make it. It was a rough week for colds chez the Quiggs. Please contact Eve Schifman if you would like to order prints of our class’ artwork [email protected] Library cards I saw many students show up with their cards last Monday and thank you for making sure they were ready for the visit that we had to reschedule. Please make sure that students have their cards for tomorrow. Many thanks. Beauty and the Beast We have one volunteer confirmed for our trip to Beauty and the Beast on the afternoon of the 12th. It’s a TTC journey to and from and we could really use at least one other parent. Please let me know if you are able to help us out. The form for payment is ready at www.schoolcashonline.com Kind Regards, M. Quigg
