Dear families,
Our Community Builders in session today was quite powerful. Some highlights were...
Some helpful follow-up questions to extend the conversation at home...
Homework: Room 109 Mystery Stories One of the best parts of being a teacher is to bear witness to the incredible imagination of young writers. I'm very impressed by the quality of storytelling and level of effort going into the drafts I've been reading. This week's homework is to finish the a final edited copy of the story and to have it ready for our big day of sharing mystery stories on Halloween. I have told students that this final copy should be their most careful work that they need to review it carefully for proper spelling, grammar and punctuation, as well as the story elements we've been working on - setting, character traits, plot: beginning, problem, solution (or mystery ending). I prefer a computer-typed, double spaced format so that students can practice their typing skills and make final edits easily. I will also accept hand written final copies. A reminder that students can access their their stories from home by using the same username (ex. [email protected]) and password as the one used in Tech class and in our class. It’s voluntary but encouraged so we have a fun, creative spread of snacks. There will certainly be enough sugar happening that week so please keep them healthy (and no nuts, of course). Here are some ideas: Click here
A Sweet Request Please keep the Halloween candy that comes to school to a small amount so that students can better manage their energy levels. This is not just around Halloween. Some students have been coming to school with bags of candy. Please make sure the refined sugar that come to school is minimal. With energetic thanks! Our ROM Trip on Friday Many thanks to our parent volunteers! We have enough supervision for the trip. Students in grade 5 received their forms today from Mme Coombs so all students in our class should have a form. Please let me know if you did not get one. Please return them to school as soon as possible and visit https://tdsb.schoolcashonline.com/ The grade 4 trip has been posted and I think Mme Coombs has posted the grade 5 trip on the site. Here’s a link with detailed instructions for using School Cash Online: https://docs.google.com/a/tdsb.on.ca/document/d/1twL3JbuMQK8pDHX3OlfVMsLCZIaGVPXrPdtjfwpZQY4/edit?usp=sharing The TDSB is moving towards this system and we appreciate you using the online system as well. Many thanks. Bon weekend! M. Quigg
